Dr. Whirlwind, Head Medicine Man of the Tribes

Dr. Whirlwind, Head Medicine Man of the Tribes
Adapted (face and hair) from a photo by Maj. Leander Moorhouse, one of many he took around 1900 on the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon. There’s quality info available about both Whirlwind and Moorhouse on the Oregon Historical Society’s web site. The painting was a wedding gift to my brother and his wife. They have allowed me to make prints from the original, which can be purchased. I have about a dozen photos that show the progress of this painting from start to completion.
